I Rode It

I was suffering from severe cramping but still cleared the entire last 50 miles. This course is challenging and without that challenge I wouldn't bother to ride it. It is the greatest race loop anywhere...

After reading about "Mosquito Control" I realized it was a comedic post. I thought I was the king of dry humor.

Bill Martin

yeah, the volunteers were great

but did not have good info. this is not their fault. ii asked about distances from aid station to aid station, etc.. and all info that i got from the nice, enthusiastic volunteers was incorrect by a long shot. i bet they would have felt better being equipped with better info. the great guy who had flagged the section of the course after aid 8 took the time to explain to me in detail what lay ahead which was awesome but it certainly was not "mostly downhill" from there as another volunteer told me.

Ha!

I really enjoyed reading this. I too bailed at aid station 7, but never got lost. I'll second the suggestion about the mosquitoes . . . . :-)

I also had the same experience vis a vis lots of hike-a-bike between 6 & 7; that's when I hit the wall. Don't know if anything can be done about that. Obviously, people do finish this race within the time limit; it's not that no one finishes. But, folks do like to at least finish, even if they don't place in the ribbons. It is disheartening to ride for so long and hard, only to run out of time.

Time Cut Off

Sheli, You may have not made the cut off time but I believe you could of finished on your own. Maybe I am wrong about that though. That is what I would do. The time cut off isn't in place to punish anyone. It is in place for the most part for everyones safety.

Bill Martin

Cut-off time.

Thanks Bill . . . point taken. Yes, I probably could have finished. I just didn't have any more suffering in me; that was my decision to make. I wholeheartedly agree with you; safety should always be paramount.

Re: Cut-off time

Sheli, I was at Aid Station #6 and I totally and competely admire your ability and desire to ride this race. I remembered you from the first year you came. I remember you stating to me that you just want to finish. You will if you keep trying. Your are certainly an insperation to me and hopefully other women out there our age!!!!! Keep on Ridin! I hope to see you next year! Jula

Back next year?

Thanks Jula. Hmmmm.....back next year? I swore I would not be, but I think this race is a little like childbirth; you do forget the suffering part pretty quickly . . . otherwise, why would we ever do it again?! :-)

Thanks for all the great encouragement and help from the volunteers!

black specialized bike pump

I was wondering if a black specialized pump was found at aid station 8. My brother was there and loaning it to riders as they came through with flat tires and it may not of made it back into his car.
