Hi, this is Bob Waggoner. I created TripleRing Productions and along with my wife Gwen, co-owner Guy Vesco, event director and new partner Gina Evans we plan to bring an element of cycling that I really enjoy to Butte and Southwest Montana.TripleRing Productions is a tax-exempt, 501c3 non-profit educational association. Donations to TripleRing Productions are generally tax deductible. TRP's tax identification number is 27-1221289.
Presently Montana has a pretty good Mountain bike and Road bike racing series, but not much in the way of endurance Mountain bike racing. My goal is to change that. I have spent the last ten years racing 24 hour events in the US and Canada, I'm looking at bringing that to Montana as well as 100 mile endurance racing.

Elevation gain
Sorry about the late response to your question! The 100 mile is approx. 18,000'
Bob's elevation profile
shows 14,792 feet of gain. Bob, is that accurate for this year?
Course elev. gain
I really don't think 14,792 is correct, all new GPS's are showing above 18,000'. Problem is we are not getting any consistancy.
Bob
course elevation gain
So in the 18,000' estimation what is the elevation gain in the first half vs the second half?
2009 Profile given?
Bob,
I believe the profile currently on the website is for the 2009 course which I emailed to you last year and the elevation gain has surely changed this year. This profile may not have been accurate in the Pipestone - Four Corners area (its based on your map and I never rode it). It clearly shows the climbs through Thompson Park and the Archery Range before the flat portion in Butte and again in Elk Park (25-30 miles).
I could update the profile for 2010 but your map and description leave me confused in the Limekiln (Aid Station #8) area. I believe your map shows the route heading north along the Limekiln-Pipestone Pass CDT segment (same trail as last year), but your written description gives a right turn here (south?) to climb and descend into Fish Creek drainage. Is this route coming up the Toll Canyon switchbacks back to the CDT for the fun single track? Or since Toll Mountain is north of Hwy 2, do you cross the highway for the Toll Mountain switchbacks? (which I am not familiar with).
# At top end of 8 miles of hell CDT you come to Aid Station #8, this is the 6 pm cutoff point, turn right and go up dirt road climb, follow flagging following dirt road until you come to a left into grassy jeep trail.
# Follow this slight downhill to a signed left turn.
# Go up following signs, you will soon start the Fish Creek decent.
# This is a steep rocky downhill so follow flagging down.
# There will be several small creek crossings that are ride able then at the last creek crossing better to jump it off your bike.
# After this crossing follow flagging left and start Toll Mountain switchbacks up.
# Follow flagging through some of the most fun single track around.
# You will come to Highway #2 crossing and continue up the Beaver Ponds CDT to well built switchbacks.
Thanks
Jeff
Toll Canyon
That's right Jeff, sorry I left out the connecting to the CDT and riding down it. I continue calling Toll Canyon Toll Mountain, thanks for catching that.

Fish Creek Descent
Thanks Bob. I figured the map was just not updated for this addition to descend and then use the switchbacks up Toll Canyon after reading the other post. How far down Fish Creek does the route go? Is Fish Creek the bigger stream crossing you mention?
Jeff
Fish Creek descent
With my Garmin. this addition is 3.7 miles. The descent is approximately 2 miles of the 3.7. I believe the bigger creek crossing is Fish Creek. It's not wide enough to get your feet wet but does require a bike in hand jump.
Bob
Aside from the direction of
Aside from the direction of the course isn't the only difference from last year to this year the Fish Creek descent and Toll Canyon climb?
Aid Stations
I'm wondering if I could drive to a few of the aid stations (maybe the 3rd, 6th & 9th) to meet a rider...I know you discourage support vehicles, but is it possible to drive to only a few stations?
